What is Deep Equity?

The Deep Equity framework addresses the dynamics of power, privilege, and the impact that implicit biases have on our schools and our students. This capacity-building approach to cultural competence and culturally responsive teaching empowers educators to close the racial and socio-economic gaps in student achievement.

Deep Equity builds the foundation for organizational growth by giving educators the tools and skills to have authentic conversations, drive positive change, overcome equity barriers and become courageous leaders of cultural transformation.

Keynote and Breakout

Jon Saphier, founder and president of Research for Better Teaching, will be presenting the keynote alongside DeNelle West on the topic of High-Expectations Teaching from 12:30 - 2:00. He will also be running a breakout session on how high-expectations teachers increase Student Agency from 2:30 - 4:00. The breakout will cover the structures and behavior that high-expectations teachers encourage in students to help them take control of the responsibility for their own learning.
